How it works

Your assistant. Your server. Your bank.

Your assistant talks to your server. Your server talks to your bank through Enable Banking, a licensed open-banking provider. Your data passes through Enable Banking on every call and is not stored there. It does not go to the makers of BankMCP™.

01

Run your own copy

On your machine with npx bankmcp, or as one container on Railway or Fly. A new server shows a setup page in the browser.

02

Register at Enable Banking

Free for your own accounts. The setup page can do it for you: enter your email, paste the link Enable Banking sends, done. Or fill in their form with the values the page shows.

03

Connect your assistant and your bank

Add your server as a connector, sign in with your password, then say connect my bank and log in at your bank.

What it does

What it does and does not do.

Read-only

It reads balances and transactions. It has no payment tools.

Runs on your server

The key and the bank consents stay on a server you control. The bank connection itself goes through Enable Banking; that part is not local.

Does not store your transactions

The server fetches balances and transactions when you ask and does not save them. It keeps your consents, your watches and your login. Your assistant keeps the conversation, as any chat does.

Any MCP client

Standard MCP, so Claude, ChatGPT, Mistral, Cursor or a local model can connect. Tested with Claude and Ollama.

2,700+ European banks

The banks Enable Banking covers, listed by country. No contract is needed for your own accounts.

Easy to stop

Change the password, revoke the consent at your bank, or delete the server.

Questions

Short answers.

What is BankMCP™?

BankMCP™ (also written Bank MCP or bankmcp) is an open-source MCP server for your own bank accounts. You run it yourself. It connects to your banks through Enable Banking and lets an AI assistant read your balances and transactions. It has no payment tools.

Which AI assistants work with it?

Any client that supports the Model Context Protocol. Claude, ChatGPT, Mistral, Cursor and local models through Ollama are examples. It has been tested with Claude and Ollama.

Which banks does it cover?

The banks Enable Banking covers: around 2,700 bank connections in 29 European countries at the time of writing. Enable Banking publishes the list.

What does it cost?

The software is free under the MIT licence. Registering at Enable Banking is free for your own accounts. You pay for whatever you run it on, and on your own machine that is nothing.

Where does my data go?

From your bank to Enable Banking to your server to your assistant. Your server fetches balances and transactions when asked and does not save them. Nothing goes to the makers of BankMCP™. Your assistant keeps the conversation, as any chat does.

Can it make payments?

No. It uses account information access only, which is read-only, and it has no payment tools.

I forgot my password. What now?

Set a new one on the host and restart: on Railway, Variables → add ADMIN_PASSWORD with the new password, which redeploys the server. Environment variables win over the stored one, and every assistant connection is signed out so you connect again with the new password. Nothing else is lost; bank consents stay.

How do I run it?

On your machine with npx bankmcp, in Claude Desktop with the bundle from the GitHub releases, or as one container on Railway or Fly. A new server shows a setup page in the browser. There is no hosted version; you deploy your own copy and you are its only user.

Open source
